Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) is a native tree with deeply-veined leaves that have marvellous golden autumn tones. If pruned regularly, Hornbeam hedges will retain their coppery winter leaves until the spring. A  Hornbeam hedging makes as fine a hedge as Beech and can cope with almost any soil conditions.
