The Blackthorn (prunus spinosa) is a native hedging plant and is best known for it's edible "Sloe" berries which are used to flavour sloe gin. The fruit of Blackthorn hedging, can also be used to make jams and preserves, but some find they are a little tart to eat straight from the tree.
